Born in Caracas in 1970 where he lives and works.
Carlos Anzola is an architect graduated from the School of Architecture of the Universidad Central de Venezuela. He focuses his artistic work on the reinterpretation of objects forgotten over time. His work is characterized by the creation of metaphors through the use of old photos, books, guides, advertising posters and various objects from the past, which are given a new life by transforming them into art. He is considered an “artist of remembrance” who is in search of his muse, collecting fragments of the past to retrieve them to transform them into pieces that invite us to reflect on ruin and nostalgia.
During the different phases of his artistic process, Anzola tries to transfer and mobilize the viewer by relying on his memory and on the way in which he has conformed.
He tries to encourage reflection on the passage of time and oblivion. Much of his work was inspired by arte povera, an art movement that emerged as a trend during the 1960s and is characterized by the use of “poor materials” during the production of the work.
This artistic movement was born as a need to provoke a different effect on the commercialization of art and reject the icons of the mass media.
His intention is to give objects a different meaning through creativity and spontaneity.
He has exhibited internationally in galleries, museums and foundations. The prizes include:
- 1998-1999. Mención de Honor, VIII Salón de Artes Plásticas “Alejandro Otero”, SanAntonio de los Altos, Venezuela;
