Baroque Blue Ionian SeArt Residency is an art project signed by Primo Piano LivinGallery that sees protagonists in this first Italian edition, visual artists, musicians and performers and their curator Dores Sacquegna, in one of the most beautiful places in the Ionian Salento: Santa Caterina di Nardò, in the province of Lecce. In this scenario, the residents-adventurers will experience the art of coexistence, conviviality, group and personal work, living in close and deep contact with the luxuriant nature of the Porto Selvaggio Natural Park Reserve; they will immerse themselves in the fresh and regenerating waters of the Ionian Sea, they will visit the places of the Genius Loci, but also the prehistoric settlements that testify to the presence of the Uluzzian Man, the oldest Homo Sapiens in Europe.
A sensory journey into the past and a return to the future, with the creation of temporary works of Land Art, multimedia productions, installations, and performances. The common denominator of the site-specific works produced is the theme on Nature, as the nerve center and propeller of everything, as a powerful guide of one’s own growth path.
Their contribution will be that of the divine Child or sacred Guardian, with the ability to imagine, explore, research, create, with direct connections to the “Five Elements and the states of being“, to remember the impermanence of existence, the ephemeral, the importance of non-attachment to things, precious truths for our earthly path of evolution.
An art project of TOTAL ART that combines contemporary art in its infinite mediums and disciplines and the cultural and natural Heritage of the place that hosts them. Their history in the land of Puglia will begin on 20 August, which will end on 1 September with a calendar of events from 18:30pm until late at night and which sees the exhibition of the works created by the eleven residents on site: the French artists Nancy and Philip Barwell, the British artists Katy Connor and Fio Adamson, the Norwegians artists Ragnhild Sollid and Birte Pedersen (based in Ecuador); the Dutch artist Marijke Uittenbroek, the Americans artists Vanessa Albury, Dena Haden, Kyle Anthony Rotelli and the Greek artist and researcher Polyxene Kasda.
The evening continues with the interventions of their Italian colleagues and artists including Massimiliano Manieri, with the performance “Amplexus Nunquam, or the man who was never embraced” and the thanksgiving ceremony to Mother Earth with the project “The Earth talks: our archetypes “, with a group and ritual performance on the “5 elements”, represented, in order of appearance by Polyxene Kasda for the WATER element, through a rite of ablution, by Rose Sacquegna for the FIRE element, a symbol of transformation and purification , by Maria Amanda Stefanelli for the EARTH element, with the construction of a sacred circle “The earth listens”, followed by the prayer-oration of gratitude for life, for art and the cosmos, by the performer Paola Crisostomo for the element of AIR, and finally the ETHER, the fifth element of the cycle that begins and ends the event under the supervision and direction by Dores Sacquegna. The performance is accompanied by the sound incursions by the flutist Roberto Gagliardi and by the percussionist Francesco Perrone, from the banquet of libations / offerings and involves all the artists and the invited audience. Primo Piano’s mission is to create a new model of sustainable environmental, cultural and sensorial usability.

The contemporary art exhibition FEMINAE VIRTUS by the Italian artist Angioletta De Nitto opens on Saturday 21 May 2022 at 7:00 pm, at the Norman Swabian Castle of Mesagne, curated by Dores Sacquegna. In addition to the artist and the curator, the Mayor Antonio Matarelli, the cultural consultant Marco Calò, the president of Micexperience, Pierangelo Argentieri will be present at the inauguration ceremony. The event has the patronage of the Mesagne’s Municipality (Brindisi).
The exhibition – The contemporary art exhibition by artist Angioletta De Nitto will take place in the prestigious exhibition rooms on the first floor of the Norman Swabian Castle of Mesagne, who after several years returns to exhibit in her hometown and in the setting of one of the most beautiful castles of Apulia Empire. With FEMINAE VIRTUS, the title of the exhibition curated and reviewed in the catalog by Dores Sacquegna, the artist exhibits nineteen canvases of recent pictorial production, through a symbolic and conceptual investigation of female virtues and states of being. This is an exceptional preview in the subject and in the theme and which – through the formula of an ethical fairy tale – invites the user to reflect on their absolute potential.
With a hyper-realistic painting, which distinguishes her from her contemporaries, Angioletta De Nitto, represents nineteen metaphorical talismans of our present, zoomorphic figures that interact with the frescoes of the Castle, spiritual entities and social identities, creating a bridge between past and present, between colors and Zen evocations, between conscious and unconscious. Well contextualized with the medieval scenic venue of the castle, the works such as “La nostra Maschera/Our mask” in which the pressures of the Id are perceived, followed by “ Trionfo di energia/Triumph of Energy”, created following the technical structure of the sacred geometry of the feminine and “ La luce della volontà/The light of the will ”, of Renaissance matrix, with the pyramidal system towards the top. Works, which investigate the world turned to women but also social demands to achieve self-determination.
The “bestiarum” that animates the canvases continues with works such as ” Apparente Dualismo/Apparente dualism” and “Ravvedimento di rinascita/Repentance of rebirth”, with archetypes and guiding animals. The theme of Death is exorcised by rebirth to fully understand and integrate the very meaning of Life with works such as “Immortalità/Immortality”. Between physical nature and cosmic energy, between masks and behaviors of love, other works of this unprecedented series reveal the masks and truths of every human action, in the duality between good and evil. A research that goes beyond the fairy tale and arrives at environmental issues such as “Urlo salentino/Salento Scream“, or on the hostilities of cyberspace with “Viaggio nel tempo/ Time Journey”, up to the most current issues related to the pandemic period and the war in Ukraine with “Rispetto/Respect” that it closes this cycle and is an invitation to respect each other’s cultural, social and individual diversities.
Feminae Virtus, by Angioletta De Nitto, is a journey of life, faith and hope, which is pictorially manifested with ethical-value and behavioral messages, to reflect on human existence and to improve experiential and social life. The adjoining rooms host a small selection of previous works including Meduse Cosmiche, Vicende, Uno di noi. On display is the FEMINAE VIRTUS catalog published by Locorotondo Editrice di Mesagne (www.locopress.it), with a critical text by Dores Sacquegna and considerations by Angioletta De Nitto.
The artist – Angioletta De Nitto (1963) was born in Mesagne, where she lives and works. She graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce, she collaborated as a restorer for the Superintendence of Archaeological and Artistic Heritage of Taranto. Since 1996 she has exhibited regularly nationally and internationally in group and solo exhibitions, biennials, art fairs in Italy and abroad including Greece, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Sweden. Her permanent collections including: Gergeri-Rouvas Art Gallery (Crete Island, Greece), a project curated by Dores Sacquegna; MAP Mediterranean Museum of Present Art of Brindisi (Italy). In 1996 she is one of the finalists of the Mondadori Art Prize.

Primo Piano LivinGallery is pleased to present the anthological exhibition by Hélène Delanoë titled An alchemical journey in three acts. The event, under auspices by Municipality of Lecce, and curated by Dores Sacquegna, opens on Saturday 30 April at 7:30 pm in the presence of the Artist, the Mayor Carlo Salvemini and the audience. The exhibition will remain open until May 13, 2022.
The exhibition
In an evocative dialogue with the Renaissance architecture of the Palmieri Foundation in Lecce, on display the works by French artist Hélène Delanoë, who lives and works between Lyon and Paris. She is an anthropologist and psychoanalyst and she has lived for many years in Africa. In 1997 one of her works won the First City of Paris Prize. Since 1998 she has exhibited internationally in Europe and Asia.
The anthological exhibition is divided into three moments of investigation, including The Volcanic Matter, The Journey and the Stereotype of the Other, a tribute to the pictorial culture of the Far East, with a selection of works from 2010 to date. An artistic path imbued with a strong anthropological and exploratory connotation that goes hand in hand with his life, with his cultural anthropology studies in Africa, with his activity as a psychoanalyst, with his travels around the world and with his encounters with great artists, his contemporaries. On the day of the inauguration, the composer, and double bass player Angelo Urso will evoke the artist’s works in live music in a spectacular sound painting performance.

The first cycle is dedicated to the evolution of the world from its primordial birth with Volcanic Matter, to its magmatic, incandescent, and tarry flows, where the sign and the form are swallowed by colours, which mixed with wax and other techniques create grainy surfaces, scratchy, such as cracks in the earth’s crust or volcanic eruptions. Here we find works such as Noir (2010) or Matiere Volcanique Rouge (2012), created after studies and direct observation at the Etna volcano in Italy, at Teide in the Canary Islands in Spain and on the French island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean at east of Madagascar. From 2017 the works of the chromatic and alchemical scale such as Volcan de mer, Catharsis, Transmutation and Moisson du ciel (2018) which concludes this cycle.
The second cycle is linked to the theme of travel and the stereotype of the other and the different, in which the artist pays homage to the exploratory curiosity of travellers between the 16th and 19th centuries with mixed media works and various assemblages composed of photographs, engravings and old maps, which become the traces of an intuitive handwriting and which evoke the mythical anthropocentric journeys of Christopher Columbus in the Americas and beyond. This cycle includes works such as A la découverte du nouveau monde and Lanzarote (2012-2016). The journey continues with the works of 2019 to which L’ile au Tresor and Love belong, a work that speaks of the identity crisis trapped in a self-referential system composed of the globe, in which only love can perform that function of antidote to the pathology of the post-technological age. Art explodes, becomes circular, redefines the habitat, creates a dimension of perceptual experience and is intertwined in natural and artificial elements as in the case of the Parcours work that closes this cycle.
In the third and last cycle, the homage is to the pictorial culture of the Far East, to its notion of emptiness, serenity, Zen evocation. These paintings evoke mountains, water and skies and are distinguished from the first cycle by the increasing variable of light, expressed in shades of grey, blue and creamy white. Here the borders expand, become liquid, metamorphic, sonorous, and fragmented in diptychs and triptychs and we find works such as Blue (2010), Arches sonores (2014), Mouvement et calm (2016), Blanc Griffe, (2016-2017), Sans Titre, (2021) and the last works of 2022 dedicated to the Planètes bleues, and to the Bleu des lointains, a new imaginary journey into space and the sounds of natural elements.
A plural and metaphorical thematic path, which enhances the plasticity of the material, evokes movement and sound. An alchemical and anthropological journey inside and outside the borders of the world.
Hélène Delanoë lives and works between Lyon and Paris. She is an anthropologist and psychoanalyst and she has lived for many years in Africa. In May 68, she returned to Paris where she settled in the artists’ quarter in the Marais, and where she attended the carving and engraving techniques workshops of Attali and Serge Kantorowicz. Her colleagues and friends include Guillaume Corneille (of the Cobra group), Guy Roussille, Georges Jeanclos, Daniel Bordier and Breyten Breytenbach, an African poet and painter. Since 1998 she has exhibited in the Parisian capital but also abroad with solo and group exhibitions, biennials, art fairs and museums in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Austria, Lithuania, South Korea among others.
Angelo Urso is a jazz bass player from Salento. The Mediterranean is the place that inspires the sounds of the composer, whose music evokes a hidden desire for travel and encounters. Among his compositions is the Progetto Vulcano where he makes use of master craftsmen of wrought iron as a percussion instrument, for a completely innovative concert for Bells and Orchestra. Expert in the technique of Sound painting, in 2020 he realizes the Shape project with the participation of the Bud Powell sound-painting orchestra. He plays in the Ghetonia traditional music formation, collaborates with the flutist Antonio Cotardo and has significant collaborations with musicians such as Almoraima among others.
On display, the Primo Piano Edizioni catalog, with critical texts by the authors and the works presented in Lecce.

ID-ENTITY R-EVOLUTION: BODIES-NATURANS, TRANSITS AND CYBERSPACE, curated by Dores Sacquegna and set up in Lecce at the Palmieri Foundation from 19 to 31 March 2022. Opening Day Saturday 19th March at 7:30pm, with the Mayor Carlo Salvemini and the artist of Light Art, LeoNilde Carabba . The event is under the auspices of the Department of Culture of Lecce’s Municipality.
The exhibition
Fifty years have passed since “We are the Revolution”, by Joseph Beuys, with which the artist invites the viewer to choose which side to be on. This sentence becomes the leitmotif for a multicultural project that crosses spaces between physical and virtual identities, between cells and bits. ID-ENTITY R-EVOLUTION, plays on the words of body-entity and revolution-evolution, through three distinct sessions of which: bodies-naturans, transits and cyberspace. Between web-identity and physical identities, the exhibition investigates the way in which technologies have transformed our lives, the ways in which we manage social media and cultivate our relationships and interests. A generational and multicultural dialogue that compares twenty artists from Europe, Asia, the USA, the Middle East and who reflect the thought and identity of this so chaotic and overwhelming era, giving us the testimony of the dangers to which mankind is it is voluntarily exposed, to satisfy one’s thirst for knowledge and one’s desire to overcome all limits.
The artists
In Bodies-Naturans, we find the relationship between natural landscape and the human body, in the works of the Human Nature series by Martin Fahlen. Natural elements and hybrid identities in the works by Dena Haden.Guiding animals and the duality between human nature and wild nature in the transgender works by Angioletta De Nitto. Identity and memory in the talisman-book by Cynthia Ruse. The cliché of beauty between subtraction and contextualization in the works by Steffen Blunk. Glamorous bodies and organic pixels, respectively for the artists Astolfo Funes and Anna Wode.
Transits session begins with the social sculpture “Lotta Continua” by the German artist Joseph Beuys, an Italian Communist newspaper, used in correspondence with his friend the publisher Klaus Staeck. “When I write my name, I draw”, said Beuys and by affixing his signature, the newspaper becomes the emblem of a concept of total art and of the here and now. His artistic production, characterized by poor materials, has a profound symbolic and autobiographical value. The international consecration of the artist is in 1979 when the Guggenheim Museum in New York dedicates a major retrospective to him. Art becomes revolutionary when it is used as an instrument for peace, freedom and respect for nature and the other. The 1970s were also a crucial decade for Italian artists committed to deconstructing and subverting the idea of femininity and the body, denouncing the subordinate position of women in the world of work. Despite the economic crisis and the militant clashes of opposing factions, feminism in Milan reached a year of particular importance called “The ’68 of women”, where women’s movements involving artists such as Carla Accardi, Nanda Vigo, Tommaso Binga, Mirella Bentivoglio and LeoNilde Carabba, artist of Light Art, here on display with the latest production dedicated to the “Cycle of Sirius”. Her work is identical in the identity-to-space and to-time, with tributes to Vera Rubin for “Hymn to the Dark Matter” and to Tommaso Campanella for “The city of the sun”, and three other works dedicated to the earth, sun and to Mars. The characteristic of her works is that they are visible in day and night light with wood lights and total darkness. Carabba is an artist whose life is studded with numerous encounters with many international artists including Lucio Fontana and Carla Accardi, with whom she founded the “Cooperativa Beato Angelico”. Since 2015 she has been part of the International Black Light Paintings Group founded by Gisella Gellini, Gaetano Corica and Fabio Agrifoglio, President of Mario Agrifoglio Foundation. The concept of earth as a lifeline is present in the installation “Being Earth” by Guillaume Liffran, which creates patterns with milky figures suspended in space and raises questions on the themes of hybridization and migratory flows. Cosmogonies between the erotic body and the cosmic body with the work by Katelyne Ostyn; reconciliation with the ancient world in the female figures by Asli Kutluay. Temporary nature and trans-urbanism in the restless metropolis by Marijke Uittenbroek and finally, sub-cultures and ethnic groups in Andrea Fortunoff’s works with “Dance the Story” patterns and more.
Cyberspace, the third and final session of this event, has become the arena in which social relations are created between NTF images and QR codes. The rapid development of modern network technology today also affects art. The perception system of painting is gradually changing, and many invisible real existences are redefined by the action of the spatial magnetic field. The invisible life space contains endless energy. Identity in the age of cloning is the research of the internationally known artist Pey-Chwen Lin for her augmented reality projects and installations. On display with “Making of Eve Clone Portrait IAR”, the clone of Eve which incorporates the facial proportions of Leonardo Da Vinci’s work, and which, through the QR code, materializes in 3D. Lin, describe them through the brushstrokes and color structure of painting. Her works deal with artificial bodies that reproduce with or without the interactive intervention of the user. This project won, among others, the First International Prize “Lorenzo il Magnifico” in the New Media category at the 2019 Florence Biennale. The web expands the depth of our space of perception and between the physical and virtual state we find the phenomenological works by Ping He. Soulless mortal beings who collapse the biological datum in Akane Hiraoka‘s work. Between 70s punk provocation and cyborg style, the work by Manu De Mey. “Kontrolle Macht Frei” is the title of the performance by Massimiliano Manieri , on display with the video produced by MediFilm. The action is inspired by the motto “Arbeit Macht Frei” (work makes you free), placed at the entrance to the Nazi camps during the Second World War. In the meeting with the audience, the performer’s body becomes an anatomical and biotech atlas of human geography. The performance has a psychophysical character of denunciation against the control of the masses, on the mechanisms of social networks and cyberspace in which we accept to be monitored every day. Setting limits is the photographic work by Dario Manco who closes the circle of this event with the work “Limits”. The human being is no longer the measure of the world but the world itself is increasingly the measure of man.
